2018.10.03 – KORG RETURNS in WEAPON H #8!

Incredibly excited to reveal that KORG returns in WEAPON H #8, in stores this coming Wednesday, October 3!

Korg is the stone man from Krona who played a huge role in the PLANET HULK epic written by yours truly and drawn by Carlo Pagulayan, Aaron Lopresti, and others. He became a fan-favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when director Taika Waititi used (and played) him in THOR: RAGNAROK.

And now he’s back in the comics in WEAPON H #8, written by yours truly and drawn by Guiu Vilanova with colors by Morry Hollowell and letters by Joe Caramagna!

Check out the preview here and ask your local shop to hold a copy for you!

MECH CADET YU wins the Ringo Spirit Award!

I’m thrilled to announce that our MECH CADET YU comic book series won the Mike Wieringo Spirit Award at the Ringo Awards at the Baltimore Comic Con last night!

The award is given to the book the judges believe most lives up to the spirit of fun and joy that Mike Wieringo’s work epitomized. It’s a huge honor and I’m overwhelmed, proud, and very, very grateful.

Massive thanks to the creative team, Takeshi Miyazawa, Triona Farrell, Jessica Kholinne, Simon Bowland, and Raul Angulo. Massive thanks to our amazing editors Cameron Chittock and Eric Harburn. Massive thanks to everyone at BOOM! who have supported the book so much, including Arune, Mel, Filip, Ross, and Stephanie. And massive thanks to Jeff, Parry, Keith and Jerry, the editors of the SHATTERED Asian American comics anthology where the earliest version of the story first appeared.

And of course, thanks so much to all the readers and reviewers and retailers who have given the book so much love. Without you, this never, ever could have happened.

THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS children’s book Kickstarter is LIVE!

Absolutely thrilled to announce that the Kickstarter for THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS children’s book is now live!

In 2015, internet superstar musician Jonathan Coulton and I ran a Kickstarter for The Princess Who Saved Herself, a children’s book based on Jonathan’s beloved song that told the story of princess Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion, an awesome kid who lives with her pet snake and plays rock ‘n’ roll all day to the huge annoyance of the classical guitarist witch who lives down the road.

The book was drawn by the great Takeshi Miyazawa, colored by Jessica Kholinne, and lettered by Simon Bowland, and it remains one of the projects I’m most proud of in my entire career.

And now we’re making a sequel!

The original book celebrated a scrappy kid who stuck up for herself but was always able to open the circle and find reconciliation with the monsters and witch she came into conflict with. We absolutely love that story of determination, bravery, and understanding.

But what happens next, when our heroine discovers that the witch she befriended miiiiight not be such a great friend after all?

The Princess Who Saved Her Friends tackles the kind of tricky personal conflict that kids — and adults — grapple with every day in the real world. I love this project and everyone who’s working on it and hope you’ll check out the Kickstarter and spread the word!

I got to write Deadpool!

I’ve written dozens if not hundreds of Marvel characters since I started writing comics professionally in 2004. But I’ve never written Deadpool! Until now! Fred Van Lente are co-writing WEAPON X, where Deadpool’s just joined Sabretooth’s team of maniacs as they take on the (once again) resurrected Reverend Stryker, who now has a robot body, because of course.

The panel above might be my fave from WEAPON X #23, with line art by the great Yildiray Cinar, colors by Frank D’Armata, and letters by Joe Caramagna. Full page below!
