2020.02.05 – Greg Pak signs STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #1 and JHU Comic Books in NYC!

I’m signing STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #1 at JHU Comic Books in NYC on Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 8 pm!

Hugely excited about this one. The story follows the Dark Lord in the wake of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK on his mission of vengeance to find everyone who hid his son Luke from him. The book’s drawn by Raffaela Ienco, colored by Neeraj Menon, lettered by Joe Caramagna, and edited by Mark Paniccia and Tom Groneman with covers by Inhyuk Lee. Everyone’s working at the top of their game and I think this one’s turning into something very special — hope you enjoy it!

Check out previews for Issues #1 here and Issue #2 here — and see you on February 5!

Mando grape

Some goofy fun: I found a grape that reminded me of the Mandalorian. Posted about it on Twitter. Hundreds of people shared it. And ComicBook.com wrote about it. Now I’m completing the circle by writing about that. Enjoy.

Also don’t miss STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #1, in stores February 5.

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #1 coming this February, written by Greg Pak with art by Raffaela Ienco!

I’m beyond thrilled to reveal the cover and solicit for STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #1, a new series starting in February 2020, written by yours truly with art by Raffaele Ienco and covers by Inhyuk Lee!

It’s been a massive joy to work on this book. We’re tackling what I think is the most compelling and unexplored period of Vader’s life — the moment after EMPIRE STRIKES BACK when he grapples with Luke’s refusal to join him on the Dark Side. We’re getting the chance to dig into some shocking corners of Vader’s past and present — taking this story to some pretty astounding places. And Raffaele’s interiors and Inhyuk Lee’s covers are already blowing my mind.

Please do ask your local retailer to add it to your pull list if you’re interested!

THE TRAGEDY OF DARTH VADER CONTINUES

In the shattering climax of The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader infamously reveals his true relationship to Luke Skywalker and invites his son to rule the galaxy at his side. But Luke refuses — plunging into the abyss beneath Cloud City rather than turn to the Dark Side. We all remember Luke’s utter horror in this life-altering moment. But what about Vader? In this new epic chapter in the Darth Vader saga, the dark lord grapples with Luke’s unthinkable refusal and embarks on a bloody mission of rage-filled revenge against everything and everyone who had a hand in hiding and corrupting his only son. But even as he uncovers the secrets of Luke’s origins, Vader must face shocking new challenges from his own dark past.

Writer Greg Pak and artist Raffaele Ienco unleash Darth Vader on his dark quest of vengeance and discovery this February! With covers by InHyuk Lee!

Agents of Atlas Comics Written by Greg Pak Ronin Island Star Wars

2019.11.13 – STAR WARS #74, RONIN ISLAND #8, and AGENTS OF ATLAS #4 in stores today!

Big day today! I’ve got three books in comic book stores — STAR WARS #74, RONIN ISLAND #8, and AGENTS OF ATLAS #4!

STAR WARS #74, drawn by Phil Noto with letters by Clayton Cowles, is the penultimate chapter in our run. The three different threads of our story come together as our heroes scramble to entrap Vader himself! Featuring the Wookiee/Sith fight you’ve always wanted!

RONIN ISLAND #8 features art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, and letters by Simon Bowland. This remains one of my favorite projects I’ve worked on this decade, and the emotional stakes ramp up again in this issue for Hana and Kenichi. In a rave review, Fanbase Press says:

In issue number 8, a character is faced with having to make a difficult choice, and they don’t just continue on unaffected by it; they stop, and the reader is allowed to live in the character’s emotions. It’s a beautiful moment, and one of the reasons I love Ronin Island.

You can read the whole review here.

AGENTS OF ATLAS #4 features art by Nico Leon and Pop Mhan, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, and letters by Joe Sabino. I love the little character moments that Nico and Pop are rendering so beautifully in this book. Don’t miss Wave and Sword Master finally getting paid and Isaac flirting with Raz! And yes, we’re getting up into major cliffhanger action here — with big ramifications for the upcoming ATLANTIS ATTACKS series!

Ask your local comic shop to hold all these comics for ya! Thanks so much!

2019.09.04 – STAR WARS #71 in stores today!

Been too long since I updated this site! So here we go — thrilled to have STAR WARS #71 hitting comic shops and Comixology today! The book’s written by yours truly with line art and colors by the great Phil Noto and letters by the great Clayton Cowles.

Every moment I’ve spent working on this series has been a dream come true. I grew up with STAR WARS — the first movie hit screens when I was eight and this world and these characters have been under my skin ever since. So it’s a real thrill having the chance to tell an in-continuity story that tells the story of a trio of missions our heroes undertake to keep the Empire off the trail of the rebels’ secret base before the events of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

We’ve introduced a number of brand new characters, including the mysterious grifter Warba Calip who’s become an unlikely teacher of Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force. This issue in particular features a key scene with Warba and Luke that hearkens back to ROGUE ONE in an unexpected way. I’ll say no more — but dontcha dare miss it!

Greg Pak’s the new STAR WARS comic book writer – and here’s a Marvel interview with Jim Beard

A couple of weekends ago at Star Wars Celebration, Marvel announced that I’ll be the new writer for the ongoing STAR WARS comic book starting with issue #68 in July and illustrated by the great Phil Noto — check out the cover above!

In the meantime, you can continue reading my STAR WARS one-shot stories as part of the STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION miniseries. So far, the Leia, Tarkin, and Han books are out in the wild. Next Wednesday, you’ll be able to pick up STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION: BOBA FETT #1, with gorgeous art from Marc Laming and colors by Neeraj Menon.

Aaaand now you can read an interview at Marvel.com by Jim Beard in which I talk about all these books and more! Please do check it out! Here’s an excerpt:

Marvel.com: Greg, basic question, but an oh-so important one: What’s your favorite of the ten Star Wars feature films and why?

Greg Pak: I was eight when A New Hope came out—although we just called it Star Wars back then—and eleven when The Empire Strikes Back hit. So as much as I love the new movies, and I love, love, love ’em, that first trilogy will probably always be my sentimental fave.

The Empire Strikes Back is probably at the top of my list, in part because of how mind blowing it was to see after waiting three years as a kid for the next chapter, and how shocked we were by the big choices and character moments throughout. It’s such a classic now that it’s a little hard to express how hugely risk-taking it felt at the time and how much it opened up and made possible that Star Wars mythology we almost take for granted now. And I just love so many of the acting beats in that second movie. All of Mark Hamill’s moments with Yoda in those early scenes on Dagobah are just phenomenally good—so real and so endearing and so critical for making the fantastical scenario work on a human level.

Calendar Comics Written by Greg Pak Ronin Island Star Wars

2019.04.10 – TARKIN #1, LEIA #1, and RONIN ISLAND #2 in stores today!

I’m thrilled to have three big books in comic shops today!

If you’re a Star Wars fan, please don’t miss STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION: GRAND MOFF TARKIN #1 and STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION: LEIA #1. Both are one shots that tell in-continuity stories about those lead characters, shedding new light on classic turning points in the movies.

LEIA #1 was beautifully drawn by Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, Will Sliney, and Marc Deering, with vibrant colors by Tamra Bonvillain and letters by Travis Lanham, and cover by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Here’s an excerpt from the 5/5 ComicBook.com review:

…this book offers a thrilling adventure that feels fully in line with the Leia we’ve come to know and love, all while filling in a missing chapter in the character’s journey to rescue Han.

TARKIN was drawn by Marc Laming with colors by Jordan Boyd and Neeraj Menon with letters by Travis Lanham and a cover by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Here’s an excerpt from the 5/5 ComicBook.com review:

This book is a must-read for fans of Tarkin or the original movie in general, delivering an all-new perspective of a beloved character who you’ll never look at the same again.

Ronin Island #2 cover

And don’t miss RONIN ISLAND #2, with art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, and letters by Simon Bowland. RONIN ISLAND was recently upgraded from a five issue miniseries to a full twelve issues due to the incredible support of readers and retailers — come see what the fuss is all about! Here’s a blurb from the five star Comics Bulletin review:

Ronin Island #2 is the rare, perfect situation where a great writer finds the right art team to breathe life into his script. It was clear that Pak, Milogiannis, and Kniivila had a vision after the first issue, but upon finishing up this installment it’s evident that they’re creating something truly special. Now extended to a 12-issue maxiseries, Ronin Island is a true, all-ages adventure with elements of action, horror, and heart that should not be missed.
