Writer Greg Pak and artist Stephen Segovia launched the “X-Treme X-Men” series in July 2012. The series starred Dazzler as she led a team of alternate-universe X-Men throughout the multiverse on a mission to kill ten evil Xaviers. Yeah, it was pretty awesome.
An excerpt from Louis Falcetti’s “A Crisis in Multiple Books”:
Greg Pak has been quietly writing the most fun and most readable X-book for six issues now with X-Treme X-men where a band of reality displaced X-men travel the multiverse with an Xavier head in a jar, killing evil Xaviers. More like “They Keep Killing Xavier!” amirite?
Josef Fleming at ComicsBulletin says incredible nice things about “X-Treme X-Men,” the reality-hopping, Dazzler-starring Marvel comic book series written by Greg Pak. Here’s a taste:
It’s got the sense of joy that Wolverine & the X-Men has, while still having the sense of Urgency and importance that books like Uncanny Avengers has. The humor doesn’t override the book, to turn it into a farce, the dark mission doesn’t take over and create a snuff book and the pathos doesn’t turn everything into a snore-fest. It’s walking a fine line between genres, but so far, it’s walking it perfectly.

Here’s an excerpt of the interview:
iFanboy It’s been revealed that X-Treme X-Men will span alternate universes. What will the balance be between new alternate universes and established ones be? Will we be visiting any familiar settings that fans can get excited to get glimpses of again?
Greg Pak: It’s an infinite universe, so we’re going to start off by exploring brand new worlds. We also want the book to be very new-reader friendly — so don’t worry if you’ve never read an alternate-reality story before. You don’t need to have encylopedic knowledge of anything to dive in and have fun. That being said, there are a slew of revelatory and exciting things going on for long-time X-Men and Marvel Universe fans to dig their teeth into. Dontcha dare miss it!
iF: When we last spoke about this, you said you’ve been having fun writing Dazzler – now that a few months have passed, are you still loving the Dazzler? What is it about her that’s so appealing and why do you think she’s been languishing in obscurity for so long?
GP: Oh, man, my love for Dazzler grows with every issue. She’s a blast to write because she’s got a great, self-deprecating sense of humor, but at the same time she wears her heart on her sleeve and says out loud almost everything that runs through her head. That’s an enormously fun kind of character to write, particularly when you contrast her with a stoic-type like Howlett or a slightly shady figure like Emmeline Summers-Frost.
Dazzler’s also a great character for a super-hero book because she’s one of those Marvel characters with an incredibly well-defined and important civilian life and identity. She’s a singer, a pop star, with everyday drama and pressures and relationships. I love having those kinds of characters in superhero books — they can be incredibly relatable and their civilian lives and relationships raise the emotional stakes enormously for all the wild superhero hijinks.
Here’s an interview from Aaron Long at Comicosity about my new “X-Treme X-Men” book, the first issue of which hits stores on July 25. An excerpt:
AL: The initial lineup for this team features a character that you seem to be brimming with enthusiasm about…how does Dazzler fit into this book and what are your thoughts on her character? She’s been through a fair number of ups and downs….
GP: I definitely wanted a character from “our” universe to lead our team of alternate world X-Men, and in discussions with the X-Editors, Dazzler’s name kept coming up. And once I started to think about it, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. Dazzler’s just perfect for the role. She’s a down-to-earth character with a great sense of humor who would be a great POV character through whose eyes readers can see these crazy cross-dimensional hijinks unfold. Dazzler’s also a great fit as a character with tremendous potential who’s ripe for this kind of hero’s journey. Dazzler’s incredibly powerful — her energy generation power is pretty similar to Cyclops’s in a lot of ways. And we’re going to give her plenty of opportunity to shine as a warrior and leader.
But most importantly, Dazzler’s just an absolute blast to write. I’ve totally fallen for her. She’s smart and funny and self-deprecating and she wears her heart on her sleeve and she’s a pop star who’s gonna save the world with rock and roll. Seriously. Buy this book, y’all.
