“X-Men: Phoenix – Warsong” #1, written by Greg Pak with pencils by Tyler Kirkham, continues to nab positive notices. Two recent excerpts:

“As with the first series, Pak has taken a rather simple Phoenix story and used it as a springboard for some interesting character material. And that’s the skill with this sort of thing.”
— Paul O’Brien, X-Axis
“… some nice character moments that once again makes me want to see what Pak could do with a regular X-Book.”
— Peter Dimitriadis, Unreachable Star

Silver Bullet Comics loves “X-Men: Phoenix – Warsong” #1

Brant W. Fowler has posted a rave review at SilverBulletComics.com for “X-Men: Phoenix – Warsong” #1, written by Greg Pak with art by Tyler Kirkham. Here’s an excerpt:

We all knew it was only a matter of time before the Phoenix rose once again from the ashes, but I have to admit I didn’t see the way it would coming. This first issue is expertly executed with just enough tease and suspense to hook you, especially with the last page.

The writing captures the various personalities of the X-Men, and for really the first time, or one of the few times, Greg Pak really differentiates between the remaining Cuckoos, giving them each a distinctive personality, and he pulls this off with very little dialogue. Also, the voice inside their heads and the significant statement it makes is both eerie and exciting.

The issue hits comic book stores everywhere on Thursday, September 7. Be sure to ask your local comic shop to hold a copy for you — and preorder Issue #2!

ComixFan.com interview with Greg Pak: “Hulk,” “Phoenix,” and “Mastermind Excello”

ComixFan.com has posted an interview with writer Greg Pak about upcoming projects, including “Planet Hulk,” “X-Men: Phoenix – Warsong,” and Mastermind Excello. An excerpt:

Comixfan: Now on to some Planet Hulk related questions. Part one of Planet Hulk just came to an end and Anarchy is fast approaching. Are there any details you can share on what to expect in the upcoming issues?
Greg Pak: If the Exile story arc of Planet Hulk was Star Wars, the Anarchy arc is The Empire Strikes Back. Just as thrilling, but darker and deeper. We’re learning more about the horrors of the Emperor’s rule, the mythic role the Hulk seems destined to play, and how their growing rage is affecting the Hulk and his crew. Big, big things are in store for several of the supporting characters — Miek, the four-armed Native, and Caiera, the gray-skinned female Shadow Guard Lieutenant, in particular. They’re going to become major characters in the Hulk’s life — keep an eye on ‘em! And of course, the smashing continues.
