The good news about this book is that Greg Pak returns to weave his latest Phoenix tale. Pak’s writing on X-Men Phoenix: Endsong and now X-men Phoenix: Warsong really impresses me. There is not a lot of superfluous wording in his stories, and his characterizations of the big name X-Men are spot on. Large ensemble casts can be difficult when you have to juggle several different personalities. Pak shows us again that he can deftly handle large casts without hindering the story and not cheating any of the characters.
Greg Pak has been tapped to follow up his “Planet Hulk” epic, currently running in the pages of “Incredible Hulk,” with “World War Hulk,” which Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada describes as the comics company’s “big summer blockbuster event for 2007.” The storyline begins in May 2007 and features art by industry superstar John Romita, Jr.

Greg Pak has the gift for solid storytelling. This is the Hulk everyone wants to read about, one that can cut loose without fear of collateral damage. Not only is Pak writing a great Hulk, but he also does an excellent job of keeping the story moving forward without using a lot of unnecessary flashbacks. The one’s he does use are important to the story and help to develop the character they pertain to. It’s also nice to see so many challenges for the Hulk that can actually match his strength.
