THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF gets picked up by BOOM for distribution – please pre-order by 4/19!

Working on THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF is absolutely one of the top ten highlights of my entire career, so I’m thrilled to report that BOOM Studios has picked it up for distribution to comic book shops and book stores!

The book is based on the identically named song by Jonathan Coulton, drawn by Takeshi Miyazawa, colored by Jessica Kholinne, and lettered by Simon Bowland — an absolutely stunning creative team. We funded it through Kickstarter a few years back and it’s consistently been the most popular book on my table at comic book conventions ever since, outselling the Hulk and Superman and everybody else.

The story features a princess named Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion who loves to play electric guitar — which draws the ire of a nearby queen who plays classical guitar. And they have to work it out! Please do check out a few preview pages below — and feel free to preorder it from your local comic shop or Bookshop.org!

The book is written by Greg Pak and Jonathan Coulton with art by Takeshi Miyazawa, colors by Jessica Kholinne, and letters by Simon Bowland.

The original PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF book celebrated a scrappy kid who stuck up for herself but was always able to open the circle and find reconciliation with the monsters and witch she came into conflict with. We absolutely love that story of determination, bravery, and understanding.

But what happens next, when our heroine discovers that the witch she befriended miiiiight not be such a great friend after all?

THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS tackles the kind of tricky personal conflict that kids — and adults — grapple with every day in the real world.

So this is it, friends! The last 24 hours of the Kickstarter campaign for THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS children’s book! It’s been an incredible ride. We’re currently at $88,000, more than double our initial ask and just $12,000 from a stretch goal that will unlock 10″ x 13″ mini-posters for every backer who orders a physical reward.

THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS tells the story of our heroine, Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion, as she grapples with the fact that her new friend, the wicked Queen, is still kind of mean! What do you do when one of your friends treats your other friends badly? Well, read this book and find out how one awesome girl handles things!

This is the kind of big, fun, but emotionally honest children’s book I’ve always loved, and artist Takeshi Miyazawa and colorist Jessica Kholinne are doing spectacular work bringing it to life. Check out this gorgeous new page that’s just come in:

THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS children’s book Kickstarter is LIVE!

Absolutely thrilled to announce that the Kickstarter for THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HER FRIENDS children’s book is now live!

In 2015, internet superstar musician Jonathan Coulton and I ran a Kickstarter for The Princess Who Saved Herself, a children’s book based on Jonathan’s beloved song that told the story of princess Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion, an awesome kid who lives with her pet snake and plays rock ‘n’ roll all day to the huge annoyance of the classical guitarist witch who lives down the road.

The book was drawn by the great Takeshi Miyazawa, colored by Jessica Kholinne, and lettered by Simon Bowland, and it remains one of the projects I’m most proud of in my entire career.

And now we’re making a sequel!

The original book celebrated a scrappy kid who stuck up for herself but was always able to open the circle and find reconciliation with the monsters and witch she came into conflict with.

I love this project and everyone who’s working on it and hope you’ll check out the Kickstarter and spread the word!
