2015.05.20 – Amadeus Cho in “Secret Wars Planet Hulk” #1

PHULK2015001B001_col

Marvel editor Mark Paniccia called me up a while back to see if I’d be interested in writing an eight page backup story for Sam Humphries’ crazy “Secret Wars Planet Hulk” #1 book. The idea was to tell the origin story of the insane, Hulk-infested world Sam’s book is set in — and the hook was the chance to tell another story with Amadeus Cho, a character artist Takeshi Miyazawa and I created ten years ago.

I said yes, of course.

The book comes out tomorrow and we’re pretty thrilled with it! Tak even drew the Amadeus story! It’s gotten some pretty amazing reviews! So feel free to check it out at your local comics shop tomorrow!

I’m going to Insta-Con 2015 this July in Kennett Square, PA!

Thrilled to be a guest at this year’s Insta-Con on July 25 at the Kennett Public Library in Kennett Square, PA. Excited about it (1) because I love libraries, (2) because the show’s planned and run by middle and high school students, and (3) the very cool Ivy Noelle Weir (who I met a while back at the Comic Book Shop in Delaware) is an organizer. Looks like a great event, and they’re still looking for guests, so if you’re a comics person who’s interested, check it out!

Broken Frontier comics anthology story trailer — check it out and back the Kickstarter!

So the great artist Tom Raney and I are contributing a story called PHANTOM LIMB GHOSTPUNCHER to a comics anthology edited by the folks at BrokenFrontier.com.

The Kickstarter for the anthology has just until Saturday morning to make its goal, and the truth is, it’s gonna be tough. The organizers set a pretty high goal — $58,000 — because they intend to pay every contributor, which is hugely admirable. And the art looks phenomenal and the stories sound fantastic, so I volunteered to cut the video above to help sell the thing.

Please do watch the video — it’s just two minutes. You’ll meet a girl with a jetpack heading off to fight the German army during World War I, a man who punches ghosts with his phantom limb, a guy who falls into a hole and meets mole people, and a team of rabid superheroes. A ton of amazing ideas and beautiful art, and for just $12 you can get the entire 250 page book in digital form, $40 for the hardcover.

Click here to back the Kickstarter, and thanks for your consideration!

The great artist Tom Raney and I are working on a short comic book story called PHANTOM LIMB GHOSTPUNCHER as part of the Broken Frontier comics anthology that’s now raising funds on Kickstarter. We’re ridiculously excited about the project and hope you’ll come along for the ride — check out the Kickstarter here!

The project’s origin story goes back to January 2013, when I joked about the idea on Twitter and Tom said it should happen and I said he should draw it. AND NOW IT’S ALL COMING TOGETHER!

“The Princess Who Saved Herself“ is a children’s book based on the beloved song by Jonathan Coulton and written by yours truly with art by Takeshi Miyazawa, colors by Jessica Kholinne, and letters by Simon Bowland. It tells the story of Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion, an awesome princess who lives with her pet snake and plays rock ‘n’ roll all day to the huge annoyance of the classical guitarist witch who lives down the road.
