Category Archives: Amadeus Cho

Amadeus Cho is a Marvel Comics character created by writer Greg Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa in 2005 for Amazing Fantasy Vol. 2 #15. Amadeus was a major supporting character during the World War Hulk event and co-starred with Hercules in the Incredible Hercules series (co-written by Pak and Fred Van Lente) for four and a half years. In 2015, Amadeus became Marvel’s new Hulk and starred in the Totally Awesome Hulk ongoing comics series. Most recently, Amadeus led the new Agents of Atlas in their 2019 and 2020 miniseries.

2015.05.20 – Amadeus Cho in “Secret Wars Planet Hulk” #1

Marvel editor Mark Paniccia called me up a while back to see if I’d be interested in writing an eight page backup story for Sam Humphries’ crazy “Secret Wars Planet Hulk” #1 book. The idea was to tell the origin story of the insane, Hulk-infested world Sam’s book is set in — and the hook was the chance to tell another story with Amadeus Cho, a character artist Takeshi Miyazawa and I created ten years ago.

I said yes, of course.

The book comes out tomorrow and we’re pretty thrilled with it! Tak even drew the Amadeus story! It’s gotten some pretty amazing reviews! So feel free to check it out at your local comics shop tomorrow!

Tons of Storm, Turok, and Superman interviews

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been interviewed a bunch of times by different cool folks about different projects. Here are some excerpts and links – feel free to check ’em out!

Storm herself (as cosplayed awesomely by Janel McClain, above) interviewed me at the Special Edition NYC comic con for Word of the Nerd.

I talk a lot about the use of history in MAGNETO TESTAMENT, questions of Native American representation in TUROK, and compare Superman and Storm in this interview for Weekly Comic Book Review.

Here’s podcast I did with Ryan and Ben for about the upcoming STORM series.

Comic Attack asked me fun questions about Amadeus Cho.

Dynamic Forces asked me about the new STORM book – and I spill a little about the possible importance of Hank McCoy.

Unleash the Fanboy asked me about Storm, Hercules, the gay romance in X-TREME X-MEN, and what I’d do if I weren’t writing comics. Here’s an excerpt:

You’re trying to learn about and understand people from all different backgrounds and places and tell stories that connect in some way and help people … When we’re writing, we’re struggling to understand the world, you know what I’m saying, and sharing that experience will hopefully help other people as they’re making those same kinds of efforts. This sounds a little silly but because you don’t want to overplay what we do in creating pop culture, but there’s a way that stories bring people together, you know what I mean? That’s what makes us human. Storytelling is probably the most intensely human thing that we do. It’s something maybe that humans do that nobody else does.

Geeked Out Nation interviewed me about Batman, Superman, and Storm.

See the Hulk as you’ve never seen him before: as an international super-spy! With Amadeus Cho as his guide, Hulk dons a tuxedo and enters into a world of espionage, only to find his opponent is…Red She-Hulk? And what happens when Betty finds a new man? Hint: it doesn’t really go over that well…especially when that man is one of the Hulk’s oldest foes!

Massive Greg Pak interview at Newsarama’s “Writer’s Workshop”

David Pepose has conducted what may be the longest interview ever of filmmaker and comics writer Greg Pak for his “Writer’s Workshop” column at Newsarama. Here’s an excerpt:

I should say this too, all this stuff I’m saying is stuff that I know, but that I have to struggle everyday to actually implement it, you know what I mean? [Laughs.] It’s an ongoing struggle to have the discipline to make these stories work the way they really should. To cut out the stuff that doesn’t belong, and to invest the stuff that should be there with real emotional truth rather than manufactured shortcuts, and to find the most dramatically compelling fashion to tell the story rather than just the easiest way to tell the story. These are ongoing challenges that I wrestle with every single day, trying to do the best I can and trying to figure out better ways to do it.

Pak Talks Comics: How many issues in “Chaos War”?

A quick edition of Pak Talks Comics to clear up a bit of confusion:
Joseph W.: Hello there Mr. Pak, I like to say that I’m a new fan of you works. I’m currently reading the great Chaos War event. However I noticed an error on the front cover. On the top corner the issue number says that it is issue 3 of 4, yet the prior issues and even in the check list of the Chaos War events says that it is a 5 issue series. Is this a small error and to be ignored or did a scheduling incident occur and you can only do a 4 issue series instead?
Pak: Thanks for the kind words, Joseph! Please rest assured that the “4” is a typo. The series runs for five issues.
