Sean T. Collins says nice things about Greg Pak in his year-end wrap up

Sean T. Collins’ year end review of mainstream comics at ComicsReporter.com has this to say about writer Greg Pak’s work on “Planet Hulk” and “World War Hulk”:

Greg Pak is a good, conscientious writer. The run-up to WWH had Hulk becoming a Spartacus figure on a faraway planet, and he really put in the effort of developing the different societies and races there while many writers would have just said “draw some crazy aliens.” That carried over into his pacing of WWH, who fought who and how, the way the characters entered and exited the series and interacted with each other when they were there, and so on.

Comixtreme reviews “Warbound” #1 again — and likes it again!

Comixtreme has posted another review of “Warbound” #1 — this time by Adam Chapman. An excerpt:

This is a very entertaining issue, as we see the irony of the Warbound being in the Hulk’s situation. Pak makes both the Warbound AND Waynesboro relatable and interesting, and sympathetic…. I’m a real fan of Pak’s use of the varied characters here, and Korg and Hiroim remain as awesome as ever. Those two are without a doubt the fan favourites of the Warbound, and for good reason. Both characters are really interesting to read, and the dialogue that Pak supplies works perfectly.

Greg Pak makes Dave Richards’ Top Five list at CBR

Dave Richards of ComicBookResources.com has posted his Top Five Writers of 2007 list, and Greg Pak has made the cut. The money quote:

I never thought I’d find another writer who’d make the Hulk as fascinating for me as Peter David, but this year Pak proved his name belongs alongside David in the pantheon of great Hulk writers. He provided a powerful and heartbreaking finale for the “Planet Hulk” storyline, and in “Incredible Hulk” and “World War Hulk” gave readers a tale that managed to be visceral, powerful, balanced, and thought-provoking.

Greg Pak accomplished the near-impossible. He took my mind off Civil War and told a great tale while he was at it. The godliness and redemption of Bruce Banner in his Hulk incarnation was spot-on. In my mind, Pak understands the Hulk character like no one has since Peter David’s glorious run. I loved Planet Hulk, and think it is one of the most underrated stories that was told this year. If you didn’t see it and want to cleanse your Marvel palate, I would highly recommend picking it up.
