UPDATE: ABC Disgusting artist Takeshi Miyazawa and potential ABC Disgusting theme song creator Jane Lui are joining me with the ketchup/banana challenge! If we hit $28,000, all three of us will eat some banana dipped in ketchup! Back the project today and make this grossness reality!

ANOTHER UPDATE: ABC Disgusting colorist Jessica Kholinne has joined the ketchup banana challenge! So Jessica, Jane, Tak and I will ALL eat banana with ketchup if we hit $28K!

By Greg Pak

Because I am ridiculous, if the ABC Disgusting alphabet book Kickstarter hits $28,000, I will embrace the spirit of the book and eat some banana dipped in ketchup. And yes, I’ll post a video of it.

Video from Racebending’s Super Asian America panel at the SDCC!

By Greg Pak

I had an absolutely tremendous time on the Super Asian America panel at the SDCC, talking about Asian Americans in comics, film, and television with super smart, super funny people like Amy Chu, Keith Chow, Chloe Bennett, Sumalee Montano, Dante Basco, and Ilram Choi. Massive heart, total honesty, and great good humor from every panelist here, with tremendous moderation by Racebending’s Dariane Nabor. Check it out!

Tak apparently drew a poo cone for “ABC Disgusting.” Yes. A poo cone.

So brilliant “ABC Disgusting” artist Takeshi Miyazawa drew an awesome series of images for the super-sized sticker sheet we’re hoping to make for Kickstarter backers of the physical books. And yesterday I took a close look and realized he’d drawn a cute ice cream cone… but it’s not an ice cream cone.

As far as I can tell, it’s a stinky poo cone.

Thank you, Tak. Thanks so much.

If this appeals to you, the “ABC Disgusting” alphabet book Kickstarter is less than $600 from reaching its first stretch goal of super-sizing the stickers that all backers of physical objects will receive! Check it out and back it today so we can make big 6″x9″ sticker sheets with multiple images of gross stuff drawn by Tak! Here’s the full set of pencils he’s done for possible disgusting stickers.

Awesome singer-songwriter Jane Lui to create an ABC DISGUSTING theme song!

By Greg Pak

Huge thank you to everyone who’s backed or helped spread the word about my ABC Disgusting children’s book Kickstarter! We hit our $24,000 goal last night, which means we’re definitely making the books! And today I’m thrilled to announce our stretch goals!

$26,000 – SUPER-STICKERS! If the funding hits this level, we’ll supersize the stickers that come with all physical rewards, creating 6″x9″ sticker sheets that feature multiple peel-off stickers of disgusting things drawn by Takeshi Miyazawa.

$30,000– THEME SONG! At this funding level, every backer will get an mp3 of an original “ABC Disgusting” theme song written and performed by the great singer-songwriter Jane Lui, whose incredible work can be viewed here: http://janelui.com and in the tremendous “Happy/50 Ways” cover embedded above. Jane’s got a tremendous sense of humor and gorgeous vocal style and is already thinking about gross sound effects and a sing-along chorus kids will love. Please do back the project and help make this song happen!

$40,000 – ANOTHER BOOK! At this level, every backer will get a digital copy of a WHOLE ‘NOTHER CHILDREN’S BOOK written by yours truly and illustrated by Tak with glorious black-and-white art! Title and story to be revealed if and when we hit the $30,000 stretch goal.

$50,000 – GROSS! At this level, I will eat ketchup on cantaloupe — and post a video to prove it.

$100,000 – SUPER-GROSS! At this level, I will make and drink (part of) a mayonnaise milkshake — and post a video to prove it.

“ABC Disgusting” on the verge of being funded!

By Greg Pak

ABC Disgusting, my new children’s book about disgusting things, is on the verge of hitting its Kickstarter target! Please do feel free to visit the Kickstarter page and consider backing!

My brilliant partner in crime, artist Tak Miyazawa, has been drawing like crazy and colorist Jessica Kholinne and letterer Simon Bowland are hard at work, so we’ll have a gorgeous lettered preview to show off soon.

In the meantime, check out the new Newsarama and NBC Asian America interviews — and feel free to back the book!

Following my own Kickstarter advice

abcdisgusting-v4-for-ks-smaller

By Greg Pak

In the Kickstarter primer I posted the other day, my last pointer was “Adjust on the fly and never give up.” This morning, I eyeballed my Kickstarter page for ABC Disgusting, an alphabet book of disgusting things written by yours truly and drawn by the great Takeshi Miyazawa, and realized I’d made a dumb mistake with the page’s main image. So I’ve taken my own advice and replaced the image, here on the 18th day of the campaign!

Here’s how the original image was showing up on the page:

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 9.14.55 AM

Such an obvious mistake in retrospect — the “Play” button was covering up one of our main character’s faces! That’s subliminally off-putting. Eyes are the windows to the soul and all that. I’d covered up the central human drawing point of the most important image on my page!

So here’s how the replacement image shows up on the page:

Better, right?
