Sequential Tart covers Greg Pak and “Secret Identities” at the NYCC
Sequential Tart has posted an extremely thorough pair of articles by Margaret O’Connell covering the “Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology” panels at the New York Comic-Con, which included Greg Pak, writer of “The Citizen.”
Just an excerpt:
During the related panel on “The Multicultural Mask” the next day, [Greg] Pak expanded on the theme of comics’ relative openness to prominent roles for nonwhite characters, pointing out that Marvel has a relatively long heritage of introducing ethnically diverse characters. Even if their initial portrayals now seem dated, as with the blaxploitation-tinged “Sweet Christmas!” 1970’s depiction of original “Hero for Hire” Power Man/Luke Cage, these characters are still established parts of the Marvel Universe who are already there available for use. Pak cited African-American longtime Iron Man supporting character James Rhodes/War Machine, who has recently headlined his own title, as a prime example of this phenomenon.

Comixtreme loves “Incredible Hercules” #127
Another rave! Here’s an excerpt:
The script is top-notch, as is the art. It’s an enjoyable, well-paced romp (which is actually the best word I can think of to describe this series much of the time these days), and just goes to show that Hercules can actually hold his own title, as long as he’s in the hands of the right writers. Van Lente/Pak have proven themselves immensely talented, as they were able to make Hercules the main star, and make the book a good and intelligent read, without changing who Hercules is. He’s not suddenly a thinker, he’s still the way he always has been portrayed in Marvel Comics, if not in some ways moreso, as he is counter-balanced by Amadeus Cho. This is a great comic, more people should be reading it, just give it a chance and you’ll be charmed by this excellent comic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Comixtreme loves “Incredible Hercules” #126
Adam Chapman has posted a rave review of “Incredible Hercules” #126 at Comixtreme.com. Here’s an excerpt:
The story with Cho was fantastic, it was a great character piece for both characters involved, and very revealing. It’s hard not to feel sorry for [Amadeus] Cho, given his life, and all the losses he’s put up with, and had to deal with. Sure, some of the things he’s done haven’t been right, he’s acted like a jerk sometimes, and had an ego that’s larger than some cars, but at his core, he’s a little boy who misses his pet coyote, more than he would ever admit, and wants nothing more than to be reunited with Kirby. The story is an interesting look at friendship, the give and take required, when to let go, when to hold on, and what friendship is.
