ComicMix interviews Greg Pak about Herc, Skaar, Magneto, and War Machine

Matthew Weinberger of ComicMix has interviewed writer Greg Pak about “Incredible Hercules,” “Magneto Testament,” “Skaar: Son of Hulk,” and “War Machine.” Here’s an excerpt with a tease about upcoming events in “Skaar”:

GP: Skaar is about to have the biggest showdown of his life as the Silver Surfer returns to savage Sakaar in Skaar: Son of Hulk #7! Fortunately for Skaar, at the end of issue #6, he finally seized the Old Power of his ancestors, which allows him to channel the massive tectonic forces of the entire planet. Of course, whether that will be enough against the Power Cosmic remains to be seen.
But in addition to titanic physical clashes, the “Return of the Silver Savage” arc will hit Skaar with the biggest emotional trauma of his brief existence. Since his birth in the explosion that killed his mother, Skaar has known nothing but blood and fire. To survive in this brutal, war-torn world, he’s done nothing but fight every day of his life. Now he’ll begin to face the emotional consequences of that kind of existence and make some monumental decisions that will lead to some shocking twists.
CMix: Will the Son of Hulk ever meet the original?
GP: My lips are sealed. Except to say that sometimes good things come to those who wait. And that you might not even have to wait that long. (How’s that for a graceful tease?)

Pak teases upcoming Skaar developments at Marvel.com

Greg Pak, writer of “Skaar: Son of Hulk,” tells us what he’s looking forward to in 2009 with a few Skaar teases at Marvel.com. Here’s the blurb:

Everything we’ve been building pays off in a huge way for SKAAR: SON OF HULK in 2009, beginning with the Silver Surfer’s return to planet Sakaar in issue #7. Surfer fans take note: a much-beloved face from the past will return in issue #8. And beyond that? It’s funny ’cause it’s true: Nothing! Will! Ever! Be! The! Same!

2009.01.28 – “Skaar: Son of Hulk” #7

“Skaar: Son of Hulk” #7 hits comic book stores on January 28 — and features the return of the Silver Surfer to the savage planet of Sakaar! Marvel.com has an interview with writer Greg Pak about the upcoming hijinks. Here’s an excerpt:

“On an emotional level, the Surfer’s an important figure for Skaar because he’s the first genuine friend of his father’s that he’s met. For better or for worse, Skaar’s encounter with the Surfer will absolutely play a role in preparing Skaar for his eventual showdown with the Hulk. SKAAR #9 will be a critical issue in this regard.”
As for what brings the Surfer back to Sakaar in the first place, Pak explains that it comes down to his master’s ravenous appetite.
“Galactus the Worldeater is hungry, and the Surfer’s heard rumors through the cosmic byways of the massive destruction that preceded the Hulk’s departure from Sakaar,” the writer elaborates. “But when he arrives, he discovers that many survivors still live on the savage planet—including a particularly argumentative character by the name of Skaar, Son of Hulk!”

Pak Talks Comics: Reader Q&A

Greg Pak’s latest “Pak Talks Comics” column is up at BrokenFrontier.com. Here’s an excerpt:

Scott H.: Now that Herc and Amadeus are back on Earth, will we see Amadeus searching for the real Kirby?
GP: Funny you should ask — “Incredible Hercules” #126, which hits comic book stores in February 2009, will include a story called “The Search for Kirby” that involves — you guessed it! — the search for Kirby! I’m particularly thrilled to report that Takeshi Miyazawa, the brilliant artist who illustrated the very first Amadeus Cho story back in “Amazing Fantasy” (v2) #15, is on board for this new tale. I just saw the layouts, and they’re every bit as subtle, funny, and moving as we’ve come to expect from Tak’s work.

Greg Pak talks about Skaar in “Hulk Family”

The upcoming “Hulk Family” anthology book features a Skaar, Son of Hulk, story written by Greg Pak with pencils by Jheremy Raapack. Here’s an excerpt from the Marvel.com article in which Pak discusses the story:

“[It’s] called ‘School for Savages’ and depicts the first meeting between the young Skaar and the mysterious Shadow person known as Old Sam who serves as his mentor in the ongoing series,” Pak reveals. “For fear of spoiling too much, I’ll just say someone thinks he’s going to teach someone something and gets taught a lesson or two in return. With bonus cutfrog venom poultices and creepy cannibals and a loin cloth joke! And, most importantly, Skaar paints!”

“Hulk Family” hits stores on December 3.
