ComicMonsters.com interviews Greg Pak about his return to “Incredible Hulk”

ComicMonsters.com’s Gary M. Miller has interviewed writer Greg Pak about his return to “Incredible Hulk,” starting with issue #601 on August 26. Here’s an excerpt:

“While ‘SMASH’ must invariably follow ‘HULK,’ I’ve been eager to get my hands on Banner for a long time and I’m having an absolute blast writing him. We’re in for some good, meaty character development as well as some wild new action as a result.” He adds: “A Hulk book needs massive smashing. That’s the visceral hook of the whole concept. At the same time, all that smashing only really pays off if there’s an emotional story that works. Certain stories will require more Banner or more Hulk, and that’s fine, as long as we get that crazy vicarious pleasure of the smash combined with the emotional complexity and character development that makes us care.”

UPDATED: “World War Hulks” interview with Pak and Loeb at IGN

IGN has posted an interview with “Incredible Hulk” writer Greg Pak and “Hulk” writer Jeph Loeb about the upcoming “World War Hulks” storyline. Here’s an excerpt:

IGN Comics: Time for some fun – we’d like to know your personal favorites in this massive battle. Who is your favorite to write? Who is the strongest? Who do you think will surprise the fans?
Loeb: I’ve been very lucky to see the terrific response to Red, so he’s the first one to come to mind. In Hulk #13, A-Bomb gets a major shift character-wise and I suspect will have everyone talking. Then, there’s the new Red She-Hulk who brings a different voice to She-Hulk — and I loved writing Jen. But, secretly, I’m looking forward to writing Skaar. Greg’s had him pretty exclusively – why should he have all the fun!
Pak: Favorite to write: I’m absolutely loving writing Banner and Skaar. But I have to say I’m pretty itchy to get my hand on some of Jeph’s toys. Red She-Hulk in particular. She’s an awesome character and we have some insane hijinks planned for her.
Who’s the strongest: The Hulk is always and forever the strongest one there is. Of course, we have a few Hulks running around at the moment… Should be interesting to see who walks away with the title, huh?
Who’ll surprise the fans: The Hulk. The big green one, that is. This is an iconic character who’s sustained a comic series for six hundred issues over four decades first, because the fundamental theme of the price of anger is eternally rich and universal, and second, because the Hulk consistently shocks and surprises in ways that actually deepen his stories and themes. Just what am I talking about here? Let’s just say you ain’t gonna see this one coming, but I think you’re gonna like it.

Broken Frontier interviews Greg Pak about his new “Incredible Hulk” run

Greg Pak returns to the “Incredible Hulk” with issue #601 in August. Broken Frontier has interviewed Pak about his upcoming run. An excerpt:

BF: Some readers have expressed their fears over having to read at least two, perhaps three titles to get the complete Hulk story. Will their fears be proven correct?
GP: Incredible Hulk, Hulk, and Son of Hulk will each tell their own distinct stories that can be fully appreciated on their own. Rest assured — you won’t be cheated out of a story if you’re only reading one or two of the books. But at a certain point, our nefarious master plan connecting the stories will become more evident, and those who are following all the titles will definitely get massive bang for their buck. Or, to coin a phrase, stupendous smash for their cash.
BF: How does the working relationship between you, Paul and Jeph Loeb work? Are you now the Hulk Architect Supreme?
GP: Heh. Jeph’s the Hulk Architect Supreme. I’m the Incredible Hulk Architect Supreme. We’re going on tour next year with Diana Ross.
It’s been a great collaboration. We’re constantly exchanging emails and jokes and ideas. I can’t tell you how excited I am for what’s coming next.
BF: Any final teasers on where you’re taking Hulk over the long term?
GP: If all goes as planned, we’ll take him places you’d never guess, but when we get there, it’ll be exactly where you always wanted to go.

Taimur Dar: Hey Greg, as always great to see the return of this column and your continuing awesome work at Marvel. It’s been almost two years since the launch of “Incredible Herc” and the title is still as good as ever. Really hoping for a Thor/Herc reunion when Hercules comes to Asgard this summer, but any chance of another face off against Ragnarok, the newly returned clone of Thor?
Greg Pak:
He’s wearing some funny togs, but that might just be the Odinson on the cover to “Incredible Hercules” #136… Add it to your pull list, amigos!
TD: Were there ever any plans of Herc meeting California’s Initiative Team The Order especially since they’re ripping off his family names?
GP:
Funny you should ask! Way back when we were planning the first story for the book, my co-writer Fred Van Lente and I talked a lot about a showdown with the Order, but the timing didn’t work out and soon we had a big storyline underway that took us in another direction. And as I’ve teased above, we do have an upcoming storyline involving characters stealing other characters names — don’t ya dare miss “Incredible Hercules” #132, #134, and #136 for the “Replacement Thor” storyline.

Marvel.com interviews Pak about “The List: Hulk”

Marvel.com’s Kevin Mahadeo has interviewed writer Greg Pak about his upcoming “The List: Hulk” one shot. Here’s an excerpt:

Marvel.com: We all know that the madder Hulk gets the stronger Hulk gets. What levels of anger can we expect to see here: punch a car Hulk or break the moon Hulk?
Greg Pak: I’ll just say that this will be a real contest and Norman’s side ain’t going down without a fight, no matter how much gamma-powered anger they face. I’ll also say this won’t be a face-saving super hero showdown in which both sides come off smelling like roses. This is a dirty, brutal fight with a real winner and a real loser.
Marvel.com: Does Norman have a game plan for battling the Hulk? It’s safe to assume going head-on is a bad strategy.
Greg Pak: Norman’s pulling in a ringer who has a history with the Hulk and a unique skill set for getting inside the big green’s head. And no, it isn’t Doc Samson. Norman’s ally is considerably prettier, for one.

Newsarama and CBR interview Greg Pak about “The List: Hulk”

At Wizard World Philly, Marvel announced that Greg Pak will be writing a special one-shot entitled “The List: Hulk,” penciled by Ben Oliver. Here’s an excerpt from the Comic Book Resources article:

“I’ve had the good fortune to use Norman [Osborn] as a major supporting character in both ‘War Machine’ and the ‘Planet Skaar Prologue,'” Pak explained of his one-shot story of the Hulk with artist Ben Oliver. “Norman’s involvement in ‘The List: Hulk’ absolutely picks up on some threads from the ‘Planet Skaar Prologue.’ So folks who have been following that story will get some sweet payoffs. But new readers should have no problem picking up and enjoying the heck out of ‘The List: Hulk.’ Incidentally, fans of Norman definitely won’t want to miss his final showdown with James Rhodes in “War Machine” #9 and #10, coming in August and September.”

And here’s part of the Newsarama interview:

Newsarama: Greg, you’ve got your fingers on many of the various pulses around the Hulk’s universe. Aside from his use in Mighty Avengers, he’s been pretty much left out of Dark Reign. Why is that?
Greg Pak: There are basically three Hulks running around at the moment, and each has had a pretty full dance card up ’til now. But now that Skaar’s hit Planet Earth and we’re about to get two ongoing Hulk books — Jeph Loeb’s Hulk and my own Incredible Hulk — it’s time for the gamma boys to interact more directly with the Marvel Universe proper. There’s some stuff around the place that could do with some smashing, dontcha think?
NRAMA: Sounds like it is. So what happens in The List – Hulk to change that?
Norman messes with a friend of the Hulk. Banner picks a fight. And then all hell breaks loose.
